Top 4 Hair Accessory Trends For 2018 & How To Wear Them
Women's fashion weeks SS18 and AW18 have given us a lot to think about when it comes to hair accessories. Let's take a look at the best trends to take off the runway and into the high street.
1. 90s Zig Zag Hairbands
Reminiscent of the 90s working girl, the zig zag headbands were presented as an on-the-go look for the Prabal Gurung AW18 runway. Whilst the look hasn't quite taken off like some of the others on the list these headbands are an interesting way to whisper a little funk into a straight back ponytail. Use a dab of edge control and a wet look gel before sliding it on to get the modern look (discount code ASCXROHMEMPIRE). I love Chrissy Teigan's gold update to this classic accessory, taking her style from understated to statement.
2. Bow clips
Perhaps the most playful and intricate of all the trends, the bow clips have taken the runway by storm. There were many variation on the 2018 runways which saw looks created with one large statement bow with minimalistic hair and ones such as Rodarte's assortment of bows on tousled beachy waves. Simone Rocha added embellished bows to braided updos to lend their sophistication some regal romance. Whilst Les Copains used bows to offset their structured finger waves. For an everyday look, the ponytail on Skai Jackson is absolutely adorable! Try using sea salt spray or your favourite curling mousse to create texture and attach the bows in 3 sections.
3. Silk Wraps
This fashion season we saw the runway flaunt wraps from all types of interesting materials, including persex and leather, but the most refreshing of them all was the chilled out silk wrap. Temperely London plagued us with familiar memories of our mothers with their hair tied up in silk, whilst Lanvin put their own twist on the low ponytail. Personally, silk headwraps just scream 'homey' and 'summer bbq', it also doesn't hurt that silk is the best material to keep your hair frizz free. I'd say these wraps are here to stay!
Although Mansur Gavriel spring 2018 presentation reintroduced the scrunchie onto the cool-o-sphere, this 80s throwback has taken off becoming the most versatile and surprising trend of them all. They've been adapted and given a contemporary spin to suit all from Balenciaga's leather scrunchie to Anthropologie's faux fur set there is a scrunchie for any occasion. My personal favourite are the Urban Outfitters 'Days of the Week' shimmery set which can be used to add sparkle to natural messy waves or bring the glitter to a sleek top knot.
